| Very different resort in comparison to Puerto Galera - a much more relaxed environment and a beautiful view of the ocean. Restaurant services weren't nearly as proficient as they were at the other resort, but I understand they are in training. Bring this staff up to the standards of the staff at Puerto Galera and this resort too will be a huge hit. Diving was fantastic and different than in Puerto Galera, which made visiting both resorts an overall positive experience. |

| Although considered an Atlantis Hotel property with its sister resort, Puerto Galera, the Dumaguete resort is very different.
On the positive side, their dive operation is equally comparable with Puerto Galera. The dive staff know the area well and they introduced me to many new sea creatures. Diving the local shores, known as "muck diving" for the black sand and muddy bottom, brought out some of the strangest creatures you will ever see. A day trip to Apo Island provided a stark contrast with 100+ visibility and reefs full of beautiful corals.
The one serious deficiency in Dumaguete is its retaurant operations. Service was painfully slow and the food choices and quality did not match up with the Puerto Galera location. This part of the Atlantis operation needs a major overhaul. Each dinner meal (we were given four choices) was void of beef. The best meal I had after leaving Puerto Galera was the double whopper I ate in the Seoul, Korea airport on the trip home!
The diving is great. Fix the restaurant mess and you'll have a top-notch dive resort. |
